Visayas Heritage & Wildlife Adventure

Manila to Cebu – 11 Days

This 11-day journey offers a varied introduction to the Visayas, combining heritage, island culture and marine adventure across Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros and Cebu. Beginning in Manila, the tour quickly moves into the historic heart of the Western Visayas, where Iloilo’s churches, colonial landmarks and weaving traditions reveal a rich cultural legacy. A day trip to Guimaras adds a gentler island contrast, while Bacolod and Silay bring the story of Negros’ sugar-era prosperity to life through ancestral houses, civic architecture and atmospheric ruins.

The second half of the journey shifts towards coastal scenery and wildlife. In Dumaguete and Bais, there is the chance to encounter dolphins in their natural habitat and visit the beautiful Manjuyod Sandbar, before continuing to South Cebu for waterfalls, reef life and one of the Philippines’ most celebrated sardine run experiences. With the added contrast of Osmeña Peak’s upland scenery, this itinerary blends cultural depth, marine encounters and active exploration in one rewarding Visayas adventure.

Highlights

HERITAGE CITIES: Explore the cultural heart of the Visayas through Iloilo, Bacolod and Silay, where grand churches, colonial landmarks and elegant ancestral houses reveal the region’s rich past. From UNESCO-listed Miagao Church and Jaro Cathedral to Calle Real, Balay ni Tana Dicang and the evocative ruins of Negros’ sugar era, the journey offers a rewarding sense of place. Encounters with local weaving traditions and historic civic architecture add further depth, bringing the region’s heritage vividly to life.

ISLAND CONTRASTS: Travel across four distinct Visayan islands, each with its own character, rhythm and landscape. Iloilo introduces urban heritage and culinary identity, while Guimaras offers rural calm, mango orchards and a gentler island pace. Negros adds sugar-era history and elegant old homes, before the journey turns towards Dumaguete and Cebu for coastal scenery, waterfalls and marine adventure. This constant shift in setting keeps the itinerary varied and engaging, creating a well-balanced introduction to the diversity of the central Philippines.

MARINE WILDLIFE: Discover some of the Visayas’ most memorable coastal experiences, from dolphin watching in the waters off Bais to the brilliant white sweep of Manjuyod Sandbar. In South Cebu, encounter one of the Philippines’ most celebrated marine spectacles as vast schools of sardines move just offshore at Moalboal. Clear waters, reef life and scenic boat excursions give the journey a strong natural dimension. These marine encounters add excitement and contrast, balancing the tour’s cultural discoveries with open sea, wildlife and tropical beauty.

SOFT ADVENTURE: Balance heritage touring with light activity and scenic outdoor experiences across some of the Visayas’ most attractive natural settings. Swim and relax on Guimaras, enjoy the tropical beauty of Manjuyod Sandbar, visit Mantayupan Falls, and experience Cebu’s famous coastal waters. A short trek to Osmeña Peak reveals sweeping upland views quite unlike the islands’ shoreline scenery, while Kawasan Falls adds another refreshing highlight. Together, these experiences bring energy and variety to the itinerary without making it feel strenuous or overly demanding.

After breakfast, set out for a full-day excursion to Guimaras, reached by boat from Iloilo. Known for its rural landscapes and world-famous mangoes, the island offers a softer and more laid-back contrast to the city. Bacolod is often associated with heritage mansions, sugar-era history and a notably easy-going atmosphere, offering a different regional character from Iloilo. This transition adds another dimension to the journey, linking two historically important Visayan cities whose shared past and distinct local identities will continue to shape the itinerary in the days ahead.

DAY 8

Dumaguete

Today brings one of the tour’s most enjoyable marine excursions as you travel to Bais, where the coastal waters are known for dolphin sightings and the beautiful white stretch of Manjuyod Sandbar. Heading out by boat, there is the chance to observe dolphins in their natural habitat, often seen moving playfully through these productive waters. Sightings are always subject to natural conditions, but the experience offers an appealing wildlife element in an open and scenic setting. The excursion continues to Manjuyod Sandbar, where clear shallow waters and wide sea views create a striking tropical landscape. It is a rewarding day that combines nature, relaxation and the coastal charm of Negros Oriental.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 9

Cebu

After breakfast, leave Dumaguete and continue towards South Cebu, where the day’s touring begins in earnest. En route, visit Mantayupan Falls near Barili, the highest waterfall in Cebu, where cascading water and lush surroundings provide a refreshing contrast to the coast. Continue to Moalboal, one of Cebu’s best-known marine areas, famed for its remarkable sardine run and rich reef life. Here, swimmers and snorkellers can experience the spectacle of vast schools of sardines moving just offshore against the backdrop of the reef drop-off. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to your hotel. This is a varied day linking two islands through scenery, marine life and light adventure.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

Hotel Options:

Cebu Beach Club

Rooms are modern and spacious, with a fresh contemporary style rather than strong local character. The emphasis is on comfort, sea views and a polished but intimate resort atmosphere, appealing mainly to couples and leisure travellers.

Facilities include an infinity pool, direct beach access, dining, bar service and garden areas. Overall, it is a scenic and more exclusive coastal retreat for travellers wanting a quieter side of Cebu.

DAY 10

Cebu

Today is one of the most active and scenic days of the tour, combining mountain views, waterfalls and marine life in South Cebu. Begin with an excursion to Osmeña Peak, the highest point on Cebu Island, where a short trek rewards you with sweeping views over the jagged Mantalungon range, the southwest coast and, on clear days, across to Negros. The landscape here feels unexpectedly dramatic and unlike the island’s coastal image. Later, continue to Kawasan Falls, known for its vivid blue-green waters and lush setting, before enjoying more of Cebu’s marine highlights along the coast. This is a rewarding day for travellers who enjoy active exploration and strong natural contrast.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch

DAY 11

Cebu - Departure

After breakfast, there is free time at leisure until your scheduled transfer to Mactan Airport for your onward flight. Depending on your departure time, there may be an opportunity for a final relaxed morning before leaving the Philippines. Over the course of the journey, the itinerary has linked heritage cities, sugar-era architecture, marine wildlife, sandbars, waterfalls and highland viewpoints, offering a varied introduction to the Visayas. Today marks the end of the tour, with a transfer timed to connect with your departure arrangements. Check out from the hotel and continue to the airport for your flight home or onward destination.

Meals Included: Breakfast

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

GROUP, SUPPORT STAFF & TRIP STYLE: This is a small-group journey through the Visayas, combining heritage touring, island excursions, marine wildlife and light adventure across Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros and Cebu. The trip uses a mix of domestic flights, ferry crossings, overland transfers and local boats, with local guides, drivers and boat crews involved where appropriate. The style is varied and experiential rather than luxury-led, with some days focused on cultural sightseeing and others on coastal or marine activities. It is a good fit for travellers who enjoy moving between contrasting regions and experiences, and who are comfortable with a journey that combines relaxed resort time with several active touring days.

ACCOMMODATION, MEAL PLAN, FOOD & WATER: Accommodation is generally in comfortable tourist-class hotels and resorts, chosen for location, practicality and access to the itinerary rather than formal luxury. Standards may vary slightly between cities and coastal areas, but overall the trip is designed to be comfortable and well paced. Breakfast is included daily, with lunch included on selected sightseeing and excursion days. Other meals are left open, allowing flexibility and the chance to try regional cuisine. Food will usually range from local Filipino dishes to simple international fare, with seafood often featuring in coastal areas. Bottled or purified drinking water should be used throughout the trip, and untreated tap water should be avoided.

HEALTH, FITNESS & TERRAIN: This tour is suitable for travellers with a normal level of fitness who are comfortable with warm, humid conditions and some light-to-moderate activity. Daily requirements are not demanding, but the itinerary includes walking tours, steps at heritage sites, boarding ferries and small boats, possible wet landings, swimming and snorkelling opportunities, and a more active day in South Cebu with a short trek, waterfalls and marine activities. Conditions can be hot and humid, particularly in coastal and lowland areas. Travellers should be steady on their feet, reasonably mobile, and comfortable with a touring style that combines city sightseeing, travel days and outdoor excursions.

BOATS, MARINE WILDLIFE & WATER-BASED ACTIVITIES: This tour includes several coastal and marine excursions, including boat journeys, dolphin watching, sandbar visits, swimming and snorkelling opportunities, and the sardine run experience in Moalboal. All wildlife encounters are subject to natural conditions, and sightings can never be guaranteed. Sea conditions, weather and local regulations may also affect the operation, timing or comfort of boat trips. Travellers should be comfortable getting in and out of small boats, spending time on the water, and participating in activities in warm, humid conditions. A flexible attitude is important, as the marine elements of the itinerary are among its highlights, but they remain dependent on local conditions on the day.

SPENDING MONEY, CURRENCY & TIPPING: The local currency is the Philippine peso. ATMs are available in major centres such as Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Cebu, but access may be more limited during excursions or in smaller towns, so it is sensible to carry some cash in smaller denominations. Personal spending will vary depending on drinks, dinners, snacks, souvenirs and any optional activities. Tipping is customary in the Philippines and appreciated for good service. On a group tour such as this, travellers should allow for tips for guides, drivers, boat crews, hotel staff and restaurant teams where appropriate. Exact tipping guidance can be given before departure, but a modest allowance for gratuities should be planned.

PASSPORTS, VISAS, BAGGAGE, CLIMATE & INSURANCE: Travellers should carry a valid passport with sufficient validity beyond the end of the trip and must meet the Philippines entry requirements in force at the time of travel. Baggage should be kept reasonably manageable, as this itinerary involves multiple hotel changes, ferry journeys, road transfers and at least one flight. A medium suitcase or soft bag plus a daypack is usually the most practical combination. The climate is tropical throughout: generally warm to hot, humid, and with the possibility of rain at any time. Light clothing, sun protection, swimwear, insect repellent and a light waterproof layer are advisable. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential and should cover medical expenses, cancellations, delays and all included marine and activity-based excursions where applicable.
