The Gokarna Forest in Kathmandu was the former private Royal hunting grounds of the Kings of Nepal. Within this forest was a lodge used by the those accompanying the royal family members during their hunting trips. Over the years the forest has shrunk but the century old lodge still stands, now meticulously renovated into a modern and luxurious hotel. The hotel is still surrounded by ancient towering trees, and there is an 18-hole golf course, one of the best in the region.
Located near a golf course and the forest full of wildlife, Gokarna Forest Resort interests both bird-watchers and golfers alike. In this beautiful landscape, Gokarna holds 100 spacious rooms, all spread out through the resort. The ample space in the living room evokes a sense of regal, rustic luxury. Each room with soaring ceilings and exposed brick, are individually decorated with Nepali-style furnishings, Tibetan rugs spread on tile or hardwood floors and equipped with modern amenities.
Gokarna Forest Resort boasts the only bentgrass greens on an 18-hole golf course in South and South-East Asia. Created by Gleneagles Golf Developments, it spreads over 140 acres at 1,380m above sea level. The resort also has an indoor swimming pool, well equipped gym and Harmony Spa offering Ayurvedic treatments. In the surrounds, you will find troops of monkeys, either climbing over the roof tops or playing on the lawns, while security guards, armed with catapults, deter them away.

When to go Nepal like the rest of the Gangetic plains has four seasons. Autumn and spring are the two most favourable seasons for visiting Nepal. The Spring (March to May) is good for treks when forests are full of rhododendrons in bloom. The heat wave runs through May until monsoon arrives in mid-June and stays until August. But in September, when the rains stop, the weather is balmy, the air is crip and the sky is clear; it is the perfect time to visit Nepal.
