The Inn Patan is a Newari town-house, set near the Patan Durbar Square in Kathmandu, Nepal. Owned by architect Rohit Ranjitkar, the 100-year-old building has been carefully restored, retaining the beautiful old architecture and blending it with necessary amenities, to create a modern boutique hotel. The historic brick and timber building showcases like a museum, many of the original wood carved windows, doors and artefacts, in Newari art that dates back to 12th century AD.
Built around a delightful central courtyard, the Inn Patan houses just 10 guest rooms including four suites. All retain their original character: exposed timber beams, wooden or tiled floors covered with handmade rugs and comfortable beds draped in fine linen. All rooms are well-lit with a set of windows and ensuite bathrooms come with modern facilities. Some rooms enjoy a private balcony or a terrace overlooking the surrounding village and mountain views.
Meals at the Inn Patan include both traditional Nepali and Western cuisines. Breakfast and lunches are flexible and guests can request for a meal of their choice. Lantern-lit dinners are usually a gourmet affair with a grand Nepali Thali including a wide range of dishes. Nearby, are the Unesco heritage sites of Patan Durbar Square and Patan Museum. One day take an excursion to visit Pashupatinath Temple and Kopan Monastery near Boudhanath, located outside Kathmandu.
