Kasara Resort: Luxury Jungle Retreat in Chitwan

Kasara is a luxury jungle resort, set on the outskirts of Chitwan National Park, in south-central Nepal. The property blends a lush natural setting with modern comforts in a jungle environment that is home to a wide variety of wildlife. In the 1960s, the lodges in the Chitwan Park were seen as visionaries, with many of their ideas taken to Africa and India, while it suffered from insurgency. But Chitwan has now risen to the challenge and new additions like Kasara are coming to life.

Inspired by the Palace that once stood in the area, Kasara Resort is designed along the principle of 'simple luxury'; a blend of nature and contemporary design. It houses just 35 rooms and two, family suites, with private water-garden sundeck and indoor and outdoor bathrooms while the family suites have their own pool. The in-house restaurant offers both Nepali and Western cuisine served in the main dining hall and an upstairs bar features over 50 different wines.

Wildlife safaris is the main reason guests come to stay at Kasara Resort. It has some of the best guides, their own elephants and modified jeeps. Elephants are best to wade through elephant grass that allows a high vantage to see the one-horned rhino or tiger. Jeep safaris are often used for birdwatching and local excursions. Other activities include bush walks and cycling to nearby villages. Back at the hotel, there is a large swimming pool and spa offering a range of treatments.

Experience Chitwan National Park in south Nepal is home to one-horned rhinos and Bengal tigers. Kasara Resort offers 4x4 game drives, jungle walks and elephant safaris through its grassy plains to see its wildlife. Take a dugout canoe to traverse the northern Rapti River, home to crocodiles and a birdwatching tour with a local expert to see over 650 species of birds. Other activities include cycling tour of villages on the edges of the National park and visit Balmiki Ashram, a Hindu pilgrimage site.

Location Kasara is located on the northern edge of Chitwan National Park to the south of Nepal.

Getting there Chitwan is accessed through a flight to Bharatpur (either from Kathmandu or Pokhara) followed by a 1-hour drive. You can drive from Pokhara (5-hours) or Kathmandu (8-hours). Alternatively you can tie it together with rafting along the Seti River, the town of Bandipur or more remote hotels in Nepal.

When to go Nepal has a Monsoonal climate with four main seasons. Autumn and spring are the two most favourable seasons for visiting Nepal. Autumn (September to early December) brings in clear weather with sunny days and warm nights. Spring (March to May) with occasional rain falls. From June to September, is the monsoon season. Uncomfortable time to visit as the climate of Nepal at this time of year brings about hot weather and rain falls almost every day.
