Stay 

Ceylon Tea Trails in South central Sri Lanka has five colonial era tea planters' bungalows, each with 4 to 6 rooms and suites. Tientsin bungalow (former spelling for the Chinese city of Tianjin), is straight out of Colonial days and walking into a typical English Rose Garden. Norwood bungalow set on a hill overlooking a reservoir has weather, just like in England in the summer. 

The four-bedroom Summerville bungalow has a suite with its own private garden and spectacular views over the lake. Castlereagh bungalow, set in a more picturesque location has views of the lake and the rolling hills covered in tea bushes. There is a stunning swimming pool but the big plus here is the large veranda where all meals can be served. 

ChildCare 

Children are welcome to stay at the Ceylon Tea Trails, but there are no specific facilities. The restaurant serves a children's menu and there is a family suite available. Babysitting service can be arranged, if requested.

Dine 

The day at Ceylon Tea Trails begins with that wonderful colonial institution, Bed Tea. The divine breakfasts include freshly baked Danish pastries and croissants, homemade black currant jam and marmalade. Lunch is the fabulously aromatic, authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry. Afternoon high teas in gardens curiously English. In the evening, relax by the roaring fires and the comfort of a single malt whisky after a long day’s walk in the tea gardens, followed by a four-course gourmet dinner.

First, take an impressive tour of one of the local tea plantations where you'll learn everything you ever wanted to know about tea from the Resident Tea Planter. His informative and humorous insight into tea production is not to be missed. Watch how the tea pluckers pick two leaves and a bud with deft hands. Then, visit the factory where the all-important conversion to black tea happens.
