Aliya Resort & Spa is a modern, contemporary style hotel, in the heart of the dry-zone Central Province of Sri Lanka. However, the resort itself is surrounded by lush greenery and is overlooked by the massive Sigiriya Rock, a Unesco heritage site. Aliya in the Sinhala means elephant and is the recurring theme of the resort, represented by a large artwork as you enter the lobby. The hotel is superbly placed for exploring what is known as Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle.
Accommodation at the Aliya Resort comprises of 96 rooms, suites and chalets. The resort’s spacious rooms are comfortably furnished and are set overlooking either the lush gardens or the Sigiriya rock fortress. The attic rooms have an additional room and there are two-bedroom suites with a small kitchenette and a plunge pool, ideal for families travelling with children. All have a simple, minimalist design, private verandas and ensuite bathrooms, some with deep wooden bathtubs.
There are three restaurants at Aliya Resort & Spa, serving multi-cuisines but specialising in traditional Sri Lankan dishes, and a well-stocked bar. Other facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre and a Spa with eight treatment rooms. Guests come to stay at Aliya Resort because of its proximity to the Sigiriya rock fortress, a Unesco site. In the surrounds is Minneriya National Park to see elephants and Kaudulla National Park, a birdwatcher’s paradise.

When to go Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with consistently warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. There are two monsoon seasons but they only bring rain to the west and south-west coasts from May to September; and the east coast and northern region between October and February. The rest of the year is sunny and dry. The central hills remain cooler all year and the only months we'd recommend avoiding are October and November when rainfall is less predictable.
