The Strand in Yangon is a true classic. This historic three-story hotel captures the essence of a bygone era that speaks of bespoke service and style. Set near the Yangon River docks, you can still watch the daily workings of longboats and street food stalls. Inside, the 31-suite property, evokes a ’30s-inspired cosmopolitan look with black-and-white marble floors and generously decorated rooms. Furnished with modern fittings, it has retained the true flavour of the past, teak furnishings of the bygone era of over hundred years.
However, what makes The Strand in Yangon stand out is the service. From being personally greeted by the GM to the doorman and chambermaid – the warm smiles and a sincere attitude to help make your stay special. The staffs are attentive and remember little things – your likes and dislikes that makes it so much personal. Stay for one night or more but if you get a chance then take a glimpse into the splendour of the past. The Strand is an experience that is not to be missed.
Just to be clear that if you're in favour of a sleeker and modern design look, then The Strand in Yangon might not meet your taste. However, this is exactly why we liked it. You will love the high ceilings and cream-coloured walls throughout the whole place. Much woodwork is now antique but well taken care of. The place is filled with history and character which gives it a nice vibe.

When to go The best time to visit Myanmar is between October and April when the weather is dry and not so hot. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
