The Savoy Hotel in Yangon is a colonial boutique hotel, ideally located in the picturesque area of Yangon, overlooking the Shwedagon Pagoda. The original building was built in the 1920’s for a Physician from the USA embassy. In 1998, it was extended to accommodate the bedrooms while the original building sympathetically converted for reception, bars, lounges, and the various restaurants keeping all the original major features including the teak staircase.
All 30 deluxe rooms and suites at the Savoy Hotel in Yangon, express the charm of “the old days” with traditional Myanmar antiques, teak furniture and spacious bathrooms. Wherever you go you will catch glimpses of times past, but it is the hospitality and friendliness of the people, which is most striking that comes with heartfelt smiles. The hallways, and rooms and public areas are immaculate with polished wooden floors and stocked with handicrafts, old pictures and photographs.
The hotel’s surrounding area isn’t large but it has a decent size marble swimming pool, which is shaded by leafy trees creating a silent oasis in the middle of the bustling city. Indeed, the entire experience at The Savoy Hotel in Yangon is framed by quietude. The Kipling Restaurant serves both Asian and Western fare and the Captain’s Bar has wide range of spirits and wines. In the surrounds is the Shwedagon Pagoda, best visited at dawn.
