The Oberoi Vanyavilas, set against the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve, amidst walled gardens is a luxury jungle resort. This safari-camp-cum-boutique hotel, has just 25 spacious and elegant tents dotted through the Indian jungle. Each spacious tented room is set around waterlily ponds with an outside deck for sunbathing. Vanyavilas, meaning Jungle Lodge, forms a perfect base from which to explore the Ranthambore Jungles in search of the majestic tiger.
Inside the Oberoi Vanyavilas, it feels more like the colonial hunting outpost of a Maharajah. The big khaki-coloured tents are furnished in retro-style pieces; plush four-poster beds, claw-footed roll-top baths and planters chairs. The picture windows surrounding the bedroom offer a splendid view over the lush vegetation and the private terrace. Beautifully intricate designs and bright wooden floors lead outdoors to private deck and gardens, where the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing.
The facilities at the Oberoi Vanyavilas are set in the main palatial building; decorated with polished marble floors, antique rugs and huge flower vases. The main restaurant offers indoor and al fresco dining in the grounds of the property. The spa is set over the lake in a fountained courtyard. Small group yoga sessions are held in the outdoor pavilion. And, the kids are kept busy by the hotel chef, helping them to bake delicious cookies in a fun culinary session.
Stay The Oberoi Vanyavilas has 25 spacious and elegant tents. Designed to reflect the majestic caravans that crossed the deserts carrying noblemen during the times of the Raj. Tents are decorated with gold woven tiger print and rugs are spread on polished teak floorboards beside four-poster canopied beds. Subtly concealed behind natural cotton curtains, teak floored bathroom features a claw footed standalone bathtub that looks out onto the private terrace. A separate shower cubicle is crafted out of evergreen marble and the walk-in wardrobe is lined in faux animal hide. Size: 73 sqm
ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Oberoi Vanyavilas but there are no specific facilities available for them. However, items like toiletries for children and some game items are provided. There are also some children friendly activities conducted at the camp to keep them busy. Babysitting can be arranged upon request.
Dine The Oberoi Vanyavilas safari camp offers magnificent indoor and al fresco dining with a daily changing menu of authentic Rajasthani specialities, pan-Indian and continental dishes. Daily routine includes morning and afternoon safaris to Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve. An evening drink at the Oberoi Vanyavilas’, British-style library, where guests tell their day’s experiences of seeing a tiger. A candlelit dinner at the poolside, with soothing music from the ‘Sarangi’ a solo classical instrument. Then back in the tent, when night falls, we dream of the next day’s thrill of watching a tiger.
Safari The Ranthambhore reserve next to the Oberoi Vanyavilas, is home to some thirty tigers. Our butler wakes us up at 05:30am and within half an hour; we are in central lobby where tea and snacks are served. At the reserve, we pick a number from a hat to see which of the five zones we will get to go on. We get zone 4 which is a bumpy drive with savannah and forest vegetation. The day is full of excitement and after a long wait we have a fleeting glimpse of the tiger. As the heat begins to rise, we head back to the freshness of the hotel and eager to be pampered by its very accommodating staff.
Experience Enter the Oberoi Vanyavilas Spa under Mughal archways into a sunlit courtyard where private therapy rooms overlook a lush, green lily pond. The Spa uses natural, plant based products and offer Ayurvedic therapies and massage. Small group yoga sessions are held in the outdoor pavilion. Located in an air-conditioned tent, the fitness suite is equipped with a range of cardiovascular and weights. There is a temperature controlled pool fringed by manicured lawns, lush green trees and vibrant native flowers.

Location The Oberoi Vanyavilas, Ranthambhore is a boutique style safari camp near Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan. The resort is 180 kilometres from Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan and is perfectly located from which to explore the Tiger Reserve.
Getting There Most major airlines fly to India’s main airports. Delhi is the best point of arrival for Rajasthan and north India. Regular scheduled flights connect Jaipur with Delhi, Mumbai, Ahemdabad, Udaipur and Jodhpur. It's a 3-hour 30-minute drive from Jaipur airport to The Oberoi Vanyavilas. Alternatively, the train from Delhi to Sawai Madhopur is 5-hours.
When to go Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve is open between 1st October to 30th June. Rajasthan, the desert state of India is largely hot but unlike the rest of India, has a much longer tourist season. Summer in Rajasthan extends from April to June and is the hottest season. Monsoon arrives in July and extends until September, is a good time to travel to Rajasthan, since it never rains there. Post monsoon, October to November and right through winter months of December to March are perfect for travelling through Rajasthan.
