Diphlu River Lodge is a collection of luxurious tribal-style wooden lodges, set around paddy fields on the banks of the Diphlu River, near Kaziranga National Park. The eco-lodge is the ultimate retreat for travellers seeking an exciting Indian wilderness experience. The acclaimed wildlife destination and UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its amazing wildlife; rhinos, elephants, buffaloes, spectacular birds and deer everywhere, and reportedly the highest density of tigers in the world.
Set on stilts above the paddy fields, Diphlu River Lodge has just 12 air-conditioned thatched cottages. These include four bungalows that look out over the river and four semi-detached cottages, which are ideal for families. Inside, the décor is traditional and eco-friendly with much use of local bamboo for furniture, roofing and walls. All rooms are spacious and decorated in neutral tones with polished wooden flooring and Indian textiles draped across the comfortable beds.
At the centre of the Diphlu River Lodge is the ‘Machan’ or a ‘jungle platform’ which houses the dining and sitting area as well as a delightful veranda with a bar and look out point for watching the rich birdlife. Game drives are included in the room cost and generally consist of morning elephant safaris and afternoon jeep drives in Kazaranga National Park. Cultural activities include visiting tribal villages, nature walks, interacting with Mahouts and bathing elephants in the Diphlu River.
