Taj Banjaar Tola, Kanha National Park

Banjaar Tola Tented Camp is located in Kanha National Park, one of the finest tiger reserves. With less than 4,000 tigers in the wild, the race to see them before they vanish is ever increasing. But it's not uncommon for travellers, to be first offset by the 6-hour road journey from the nearest airport and then be pleasantly surprised by the tented camp's ample charm on their arrival. The wildlife resorts by the Taj offer unparalleled luxury in the middle of a scrub forest.

Taj Banjaar Tola boasts two elegant camps of nine suites each, as well as a lavish tented guest area. Built in a chic, glamorous contemporary style, each tented suite features a spacious en-suite bedroom with gorgeous bamboo floors, and locally crafted furniture hewn from local timber. The room is tastefully designed with locally produced rich, block-printed cottons and silks. Large glass doors leading out onto a floating verandah, and overlooks a tranquil river.

The tented guest area at Banjaar Tola Camp is equipped with a magnificent swimming pool, dining decks overlooking the nearby river and a library. Breakfast is generally in the park while on safari and lunches by the pool, or in the cool shade of your private deck. Dinner at Banjaar Tola is gourmet fare, set midst of the sal forest and lit by hundreds of lanterns, accompanied by traditional music and dancing.

Stay

Taj Banjaar Tola has 18 tented suites in two campsites. The tented suites are set on raised platforms with King Size bed with wide glass doors that open onto private deck overlooking the Banjaar River, offering panoramic views of the lush forest and grassy meadows. Raw timber furniture, canvas wardrobes, leather detailing and handcrafted furniture made from fallen trees and driftwood give a glamorous camping feel. Attached spacious bathroom has free standing bathtub with jungle view.

ChildCare

Children are welcome to stay at Taj Banjaar Tola. Although there are no specific facilities available for young children, the camp has specially trained staff to educate 6-12 kids about wildlife and its preservation. Babysitting can be arranged, on request.

Dine

The day at Banjaar Tola Tented Camp starts with a lavish breakfast of local delicacies. Lunches often include a choice of salads, vegetables and meat dishes, followed by a fresh dessert. Dinner is generally served in the Banjaar Tola forest, lit by hundreds of lanterns, and accompanied by traditional dancing and singing. Fresh green salads with clay roasted chicken, while a thali dinner may feature a selection of regional dishes. Some evenings the lodge chef may invite guests to take part in an impromptu cooking lesson before dinner.

Safari

Not surprisingly, activities at Banjaar Tola revolve around a safari with a primary aim of watching tigers, the largest cat species on the planet. There are several options for transportation, including Land Cruisers, walking safaris, or elephant rides. Safaris are conducted at dawn and dusk, which are often the optimal times to spot the elusive creatures such as tiger, leopard, sloth bear, and the highly endangered hard-ground barasingha, a type of deer hunted nearly to extinction. Other more common species included the jackal, langur, wild pig, and barking deer.
