Mayura Hill Resort, Sen Monorom

Mayura Hill Resort is a small and simple boutique lodge, set in the remote Mondulkiri province in Eastern Cambodia. Nestled close to the border of Vietnam, Mondulkiri is located at a high elevation and is home to a number of rare animals; elephants, bears and leopards. Nestled in an ever-green forest Mayura Hill Resort is perfectly positioned for exploring the Mondulkiri region, famous for its beautiful rolling hills, wildlife infested forests and gushing waterfalls.

Spread through beautiful gardens, Mayura Hill Resort offers just 14 guests rooms. The resort does not have the traditional luxury standards, but it’s the best in the area and the staff is inviting and warm. You'll have a comfortable clean bed, a hot shower and air-conditioning. For more space opt for the Deluxe Villa that has a private balcony or the Family Suite Villa which can accommodate up to four persons. Facilities include a fine restaurant, an infinity-edge swimming pool and a gym.

Mondulkiri has something for everyone: families, outdoors experiences, wildlife and options to visit local villages. Mayura Hill Resort is close to Elephant Valley Project run by the eccentric and wise young Englishman Jack Highwood who offers a magical experience with elephants. Visit the Bou Sraa Waterfall, one of the most impressive in Cambodia. Nearby, is Mayura Zip line, 300-metres long, flying over the waterfall at breathtaking speeds.

Stay

Mayura Hill Resort has just 14 air-conditioned villas spread throughout its extensive gardens. All are spacious suite-style rooms with a dining and lounge area and simply but elegantly furnished with handmade wooden furniture and ensuite bathrooms. Our recommended Deluxe Villas come with a jacuzzi or a bathtub as well as a balcony, overlooking the gardens or the pool. Room amenities include satellite TV with DVD player, tea/coffee facilities, minibar and wardrobe space.

ChildCare

Families with children are welcome to stay at Mayura Hill Resort. There are four Family Suite Villas with a separate living room and bedroom overlooking an evergreen forest. The swimming pool has a children's play area and there are lots of child friendly activities including zip-lining, quad biking, an elephant project and short walks to waterfalls.

Dine

The in-house restaurant at the Mayura Hill Resort is one of the best in town and open to the public as well as hotel guests. The menu is a mix of Cambodian and some Western favourites. Meals are served indoors or al fresco on the terrace. For a change of taste, you can find some reasonably good restaurants within easy reach of Mayura.

Relax

There is an infinity-edge pool at the Mayura Hill Resort and a well-equipped gym. There are ample spaces in the beautiful garden to relax under age-old trees.

Experience

Mondulkiri province is Cambodia’s perfect off-the-beaten-track destination and Mayura Hill Resort offers a range of activities to explore this region. Elephants are clearly the must-see attraction here but there are also beautiful rolling hills with dry and wet sub-tropical forests, a plethora of gushing waterfalls and tribal villages. Visit Bousra Waterfall near Sen Monorom, Phnom Prich Sanctury for its sprawling rain forests and take an elephant trek to the small tribal village of Pahlung.

Location Mayura Hill Resort is located on the edge of Sen Monorom in Cambodia's remote and easternmost province of Mondulkiri.

Getting there Mondulkiri is one of Cambodia's remotest regions and can take a full day to drive there from Phnom Penh, often taking 8 hours. The journey is scenic and there are places to stop en route. We think it's worth it for more intrepid families wanting to get off-the-beaten-track in Cambodia.

When to go Cambodia is hot all year round and the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. It starts to get wetter in May and the wettest months are September and October. It is still possible to visit during this time as rain usually falls as short sharp storms. November is a fantastic month to visit Cambodia as it is very green after the rainy season and the lakes and rivers are full of water.
