The story

Our inspiration for this voyage from Gili to Komodo stemmed from Indonesia’s diverse landscapes, rich cultural tapestry, and unique wildlife. Travellers have the rare opportunity to spot extraordinary species such as the bird of paradise, which inhabit the remote rainforests and islands along our route.

The region holds a special place in the history of natural selection, as it was here that pioneering naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace conducted his groundbreaking explorations. Wallace’s observations of wildlife in Indonesia contributed significantly to the theory of natural selection, and his correspondence with Charles Darwin helped shape the foundations of evolutionary science.

We envisioned an adventure that immerses travellers in the vibrant life of remote islands, from observing Komodo dragons to exploring underwater wonders and traditional villages. This once-in-a-lifetime journey is designed to create unforgettable memories.

This tour is part of a series of unique sailing adventures in Indonesia, celebrating the country’s natural beauty and cultural richness—perfect for explorers, nature enthusiasts, and cultural aficionados.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

YOUR TRIP DESIGN, PACE & FLEXIBILITY: This itinerary is a fully private, premium sailing journey across Eastern Indonesia, operating as an 11-day cruise from Bali to Kupang aboard a traditional Indonesian vessel with a dedicated crew. We will advise the most practical routing around island stops, snorkelling conditions and wildlife encounters (including Komodo), then refine the day-by-day with you. Sea conditions and local harbour clearances can influence exact timings, so we plan with sensible buffers and keep the order of visits flexible to protect the best experiences. If you prefer a slower rhythm, we can add pre/post nights in Bali or extend the trip beyond Kupang.

PRIVATE CREW, ONBOARD COMFORT & ON-THE-GROUND SUPPORT: This is a high-end private voyage with crewed sailing, so you are fully supported throughout—no sailing experience is required. Your crew manages navigation, safety, meals and day-to-day operations, while we coordinate the overall schedule, joining arrangements and any shore logistics. Daily activities are timed around tides, visibility and comfort, with assistance for dinghy landings, snorkelling sessions and island walks. Where weather or operational constraints require changes, we re-sequence stops calmly and proactively. You will have clear on-trip contacts and practical support, with the emphasis on an effortless, well-managed experience.

ACCOMMODATION STANDARDS & MEAL BASIS: Accommodation is onboard in private cabins, with a premium service level designed for exploration without compromising comfort. Space at sea is naturally more compact than a hotel, but standards are managed through good bedding, attentive service, and well-planned communal areas. Meals are typically provided onboard as part of the cruise experience, with fresh, locally inspired dining and refreshments timed around activities; any meals taken ashore are arranged case-by-case depending on location and logistics. Dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice—particularly important on a vessel—so we plan menus accordingly and set expectations where remote provisioning limits choice.

FLIGHTS, VISAS, HEALTH & TRAVEL INSURANCE: International flights are optional: we can arrange this trip as land-only, or include flights as a flight-inclusive package under our ATOL (where applicable). We will advise the most reliable flight routing into Bali and onward from Kupang (often via domestic connections), and build sensible connection times around embarkation/disembarkation. Entry requirements depend on your passport and routing; we will guide you on typical requirements and timing, while you remain responsible for compliance. Activity is generally moderate (snorkelling, short hikes, boat transfers); travel insurance is essential, including medical and evacuation cover suitable for remote islands and on-water activities.

COSTING, PAYMENTS, CHANGES & CANCELLATIONS: Tailor-made pricing is built from live supplier costs for a private vessel, crew, cabin category, cruising permits and any curated experiences, so availability and rates can change until services are secured. Key price drivers include seasonality, vessel class and cabin configuration, and limited inventory on preferred sailing dates. Because vessels operate on capacity and fixed operating windows, advance payments are often required to secure the boat and crew; we will confirm exactly what is due and when before taking payment. Changes after booking can trigger supplier fees (particularly close to departure); we will explain the impact before actioning changes and provide clear documentation of terms and deadlines.
