Mandarin Oriental Bangkok – Iconic Luxury in Thailand

The Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok is centrally located on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River. Built in 1876 and still the classiest hotel in Bangkok, the Oriental is more than just one of the world’s most splendid hotels; it’s almost a piece of history. Writers have kept coming here to feel the magic, sit on the banks of the Chao Praya and watch the play of light on the moody river.

The huge lounge area is bright and airy, as are the perfectly appointed rooms. All room types have their own distinct personality, and there is large range to choose from. Even the standard rooms are spacious but the stately Heritage Author’s Suites are individually designed to reflect their personality. Nevertheless, all guests enjoy butler service and river views.

The hotel has nine restaurants serving from elegant French cuisine to contemporary Cantonese and al fresco Thai favourites. There is a large pool by the river, an award-winning spa, a gym and a cooking school.  The secret, leafy corners beside the swimming pool, or shadowy Bamboo Bar where they belt out jazz, nurture the romance of this stately hotel, which has lured royalty, heads of state, artists and travellers for over 150 years.

Stay The Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok has 358 rooms and 35 suites. Entry level Superior rooms have partial river views while Deluxe Rooms located on higher floors have full river views. For more space, book Premier Rooms, located in the Garden Wing, some on split-level or Mandarin Rooms, located in the Main Wing. For absolute luxury, there are spacious one and two-bedroom suites all vary in size but the unique Author's Suites in the River Wing are best known.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at The Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok. The hotel provides a host of baby items including cribs, sterilisers, bathtubs and bath amenities. The restaurant has a children's menu and there is a family suite available. The Sanook Kids Club provides hours of fun for 3-14-year olds with culinary and cultural activities. Babysitting service can be arranged, if requested.

Dine The Mandarin Oriental has nine venues for dining and drinks. These include Le Normandie, the French fine dining restaurant where acclaimed master chefs from around the world regularly come to present their celebrated cuisine. Lord Jim is famous for its Thai inspired buffet lunches and if you cannot stay without Thai food then then visit Sala Rim Naam in the evening.

Get more authentic at The China House with Cantonese fine dining or Ciao Terrazza serving classic Italian and not to miss The Riverside Terrace for the Indian tandoor dishes. There are more bars and cafes here but, it’s The Bamboo Bar that personifies the passion, seductive elegance and spirit of both The Oriental Hotel and Bangkok’s rich history.

Relax The Mandarin Oriental Spa is frequently voted among the best in the world and offers therapies based on traditional Thai and modern Western techniques. The Fitness Centre is well equipped with sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. There are two pools. A wading pool surrounded by cabanas for relaxing dips and a 25-metre long pool, ideal for swimming laps. Alternatively, you can join, Yoga sessions, designed and conducted by resident Yogic Lifestyle Trainer.

Experience Bangkok is one of the best places in Asia for shopping. From quirky little handicraft stalls to mega-malls, shopping in Bangkok is a delight for most discerning shoppers. With everything from antiquities to designer jewellery, there is an exhausting variety of things to buy.

March-Jun brings the hot season when sightseeing is best scheduled for morning or late afternoon. May, September and October are the wettest months and between June and August, you can still visit Bangkok although you will get some rain.
