ViewPoint Lodge - Riverside Retreat in Myanmar

View Point Lodge is an eco-boutique resort, set north of the Inle Lake, in Eastern Myanmar. Situated outside the village of Nyaung Shwe, the hotel is set on stilts over the pond, some distance away from the activity on the main lake. The resort boasts of its eco-credentials; all rooms are built with natural materials without the use of concrete and ensures minimum damage occurs to the environment during its daily operations.

Accommodation at the View Point Lodge comprises of just 24 floating houses on stilts. Located just outside Nyaung Shwe village, overlooking the Taik Nan Bridge, the hotel is situated at the crossroads of land and lake where there is a constant hive of activity with local village life. The cottages are built in traditional Shan style using local limestone, mud and rice straw, which provides superb insulation and soundproofing; essential to cut out the noise from the motorboats.

Inside, the rooms are luxuriously decorated with wooden polished floors, open beamed ceilings and spacious bathrooms with modern facilities. Rooms are divided between a spacious bedroom and a separate sitting area with a day bed with double glazed windows. The much renowned Shan Restaurant serves delicious International and tradition cuisines, which we recommend to book in advance as it is quite popular with local guests and tourists to the area.

Stay View Point Lodge features 24 rooms, grouped in two categories. These are built in tradition style on stilts with limestone, mud and rice straw, and reinforced with wooden beams and thatched roofs. Inside, the décor is simple but elegant; white washed walls with hardwood plush beds and use of natural fabrics that throw in the colour. All have air-conditioning, modern bathrooms and are equipped mod cons such as Wi-Fi, LCD TV with unlimited movies and music system.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at View Point Lodge & Fine Cuisines. There are adjacent rooms which are connected on the outside but there are no particular services available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.

Dine The View Point Lodge is primarily known for its fine cuisines. It began as a fine dining restaurant before it started offering accommodation. Its Shan Restaurant, which has a Swiss Management is still one of the best in town and draws travellers from across Inle Lake to try its delicious local dishes and scenic views. Everything is completely homemade including the incredible breads and pastries.

Relax The meals at the View Point Lodge’s Shan Restaurant will certainly sending you looking for a place to rest and there are many nooks and corners, where you can lie down to let your food settle. But if you want to walk it out then there are ample spaces nearby or you can hire a bicycle and build up your appetite for an evening meal (which is more appropriate).

Experience Situated just outside Nyaung Shwe village, View Point Lodge is a short walk from the jetty giving access to the Inle Lake area which offers a huge array of activities. On Inle Lake itself visit local stilted villages, historic pagodas and temple complexes while on land cycle through rice paddies and even visit local vineyards. Also visit the remote villages of the Kayan people whose women wear large brass neck rings and the Pa’O tribe whose women wear brightly coloured head scarves.

Location View Point Lodge is located overlooking Taik Nan Bridge and a short walking distance from Nyang Shwe village.

Getting there An 14-hour flight to Yangon via Bangkok followed by an internal 30-minute flight to Heho Airport. From here View Point is a 40-minute drive away.

When to go The best time to visit Myanmar is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March and May to September which is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
