Riverside at Hsipaw is a boutique resort set in the northern Shan state of Myanmar. Hsipaw has long been regarded as one of the best places in Myanmar for trekking and Hsipaw located on the eastern banks of the Dokhtawady River provides the perfect base to explore the region. The 20 simple but spacious guest rooms are housed in 10 charming brick cottages, each with their own terrace overlooking the river and town beyond. Facilities include a lovely garden, air-conditioning and Wi-Fi.
Amenities
Stay Riverside at Hsipaw Resort has 20 rooms located in 10 duplex bungalows built in traditional style with open brick walls and thatched roof. Inside the décor is simple with comfortable beds draped in mosquito net, tiled floors and wood furnishings emulating the natural setting of the eco-lodge. The four-panel windows look out onto a private balcony with a wooden bench to enjoy riverside view. Modern amenities include air-conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi and ensuite bathrooms.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Riverside at Hsipaw Resort but there are no specific facilities available for younger children. Children of under the age of 12 years sharing bed with parents are FOC, excluding breakfast. Children below 4 years have free breakfast while those between 5 and 11 years are charged 50% of the cost.
Dine The open-sided outdoor restaurant at the Riverside at Hsipaw Resort is ideal for making the most of the great outdoors and dining al fresco while taking in the gorgeous views, as the temperature is always warm. Sip a cocktail or two by the water. Expect delicious traditional Shan, Western and Chinese dishes prepared with fresh locally sourced ingredients.
Relax There are no facilities of the kind expected in a luxury hotel but there are enough spaces to relax and the helpful staff at the Riverside at Hsipaw Resort are always ready to offer advice on visiting local areas.
Experience Remote areas are always full of surprises and Hsipaw is no exception. Although the Riverside at Hsipaw Resort can organise guided tours, it is best to explore alone and discover the unknown. Begin with a cycling tour to Nam Tok waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the area. Visit the Shan Palace, an old house on the outskirts of Hsipaw, similar to classic British architecture. It was built in 1924 for Sao Oo Kya, the last Shan prince who had studied in Oxford England.
Location Hsipaw is located in the north of Shan State on the old Burma Road which connected Yunnan in China with Mandalay.
Getting there Fly to either Lashio and drive to Hsipaw (2.5 hours) or combine with Pyin Oo Lwin on the train (5 hours) or drive to Mandalay in one go which also takes 5 hours.
When to go The best time to visit Burma is during the dry season from November to April. At this time the warm and sunny days are ideal for sightseeing throughout the country. The temperatures start to rise in March, and May to September is best avoided as this is the rainy season when sightseeing can become difficult.
