Pangkor Laut Resort: Luxury Private Island Retreat

Pangkor Laut Resort, in Perak, Strait of Malacca nestles amidst an ancient rainforest, on a private island fringed by white sandy beaches. The resort is along several stretches of sandy beach with each section as appealing as the next for different reasons. Declared a paradise by the late Pavarotti and previously voted 'Number One in the World' by Condé Nast Traveller; wooden buildings blend seamlessly into the forest with trees growing alongside your living space. 

Pangkor Laut Resort has 140 villas and suites by the sea or surrounded by tropical gardens. Choose from Sea, Beach or Spa villas, perched on stilts over the Straits of Malacca. Otherwise opt for a Hill or Garden Villas, each in their individually unique settings and many with outdoor bathtubs. All villas have breath-taking views of the sea and the surrounding tropical gardens. Rooms are well equipped with minibars, and coffee makers, a free Wi-Fi and wired Internet.

Dining at Pangkor Laut is a gastronomic adventure with seven restaurants, bars and lounges including personalised dining experiences at stunning locations. The exclusive Belian Spa Pavilion, provides an outdoor whirlpool, yoga pavilion, steam room and private treatment area. Soak up the sun at one of Pangkor Laut Resort’s two swimming pools. Or, enjoy a game of squash or tennis and then trek through the rainforest with the resident naturalist.

Stay Pangkor Laut Resort has 140 villas and suites. Garden, Hill and Beach Villas are located on the island, whilst the Sea Villas and Sea Suites are located out over the water, feature a master bedroom with a living room. Villas located close to the Spa Village enjoy access to the Spa Village pool. The two-bedroom Pavarotti Suite has a secluded location in the rainforest and is named after the world-famous tenor who performed at the resort's official launch. 


ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Pangkor Laut Resort, but there are no specialist facilities available. However, babysitting can be arranged, if requested.


Dine There is a wide choice of restaurants and cuisine at the Pangkor Laut Resort. The Feast Village restaurant specialises in local delicacies and Malay cuisine. Experience Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese-style home cooking at the Uncle Lim's Kitchen or Southeast Asia-inspired cuisine at The Straits. Being on a seaside, Fisherman's Cove prepares fresh catch on its open show kitchen but if you are hungry for western food then visit Chapman's Bar for burgers and refreshing drinks. 


Relax The Pangkor Laut Resort’s Spa Village creates wellness programmes that combine physical and spiritual health and wellbeing, based on one of four concepts: Rejuvenation and Longevity, Relaxation and Stress Reduction, Detoxification, and Romance. This award-winning spa – from the likes of Condé Nast Traveller and CNNgo – includes 22 beautiful Spa Villas situated over the sea with direct access to the Spa Village.


Experience Pangkor Laut Resort conducts daily jungle treks led by the resident naturalist. You will see long-tailed macaques and oriental pied hornbills perched in the branches above while white-bellied sea eagles soar overhead and large monitor lizards sunbathe on the island’s rocky outcrops. Alternatively, take the Pangkor Laut’s Chefs Experience tour and visit local fish markets and then to a fish farm where you catch your lunch. Cook with local ingredients and learn some new recipes.

Location The Pangkor Laut Resort is set on a private rainforest-clad island along the straits of Malacca.


Getting there The closest active airport to Pangkor is at Ipoh. Ipoh Airport is served by Firefly that connects with Singapore and Malindo. Getting to the mainland town of Lumut from either Penang or Kuala Lumpur is relatively easy and takes approximately three to four hours by car.


When to go Malaysia has a hot and humid climate year-round, interspersed with tropical rain showers. There is a clear east-west split in the weather. The wet season on the east coast is between November & February, which is when the west coast experiences sunny, dry weather. Conversely, the wettest months on the west coast are April to October, which are the driest months on the east coast. The capital, Kuala Lumpur has less rainfall during June to August.
