Ryokan Hakone Ginyu, Honshu

Hakone Ginyu is a modern Ryokan set along a mountainside within the Fuji-Hakone National Park, southwest of Tokyo. Built in contemporary style, its interiors combine traditional Japanese elements with stunning modern touches creating a traditional ambience. The entrance and lobby are located on the top of the building, providing dramatic views over the Hayakawa valley, while the essence of Japanese style continues throughout its corridors, the rooms and the entire resort.

There are just 20 guest rooms, spread on four floors, each decorated in simple but elegant style. Expect tatami-floors with traditional Japanese futons (unless you have requested for western-style), sunken floors and both an indoor and outdoor bath. Wraparound wooden verandas with comfortable seating offer grand vistas of the valley below. Each comes has the latest flat screen TV, DVD player and sound system.

Your stay at the Hakone Ginyu is on half-board basis which includes a breakfast and dinner. The menu is traditional Japanese seafood cuisine, prepared with fresh local ingredients. The multi-course meals are served in the dining area of your room in a discreet Japanese style. Later, guests can opt to realax in the community ‘onsen’ or unwind at the Ginyu Spa, which continues the ryokan's theme of pampering. Guests can choose from soothing massages, facials and reflexology.

Stay

Hakone Ginyu features just 17 Japanese style and three Western style rooms, spread out on four floors. Suites on the first and second level have sunken floors, the best views over the mountainside, and both an indoor and outdoor bath. Rooms on the third floor have wooden baths that are smaller, while rooms on the fourth floor have stone baths. Both the Japanese suites and western-style rooms boast separate dining areas with a sunken table that allows you to stretch your legs.

ChildCare

Families with children are welcome to stay at Hakone Ginyu but there are no specific facilities available for children. Babysitting service can be arranged, upon request.

Dine

The highlight of your stay at Hakone Ginyu is the elaborate kaiseki meal served in your room in traditional Japanese style. What may appear to be a simple multi-course Japanese dinner is actually meticulously prepared, exquisitely served and, usually, very expensive meal. Traditionally served at a tatami-matted ryokan, the experience culminates with dessert and a matcha tea ceremony.

Relax

Another highlight of staying at a ryokan is the hot spring baths. There are three outdoor and two indoor hot spring baths at the Hakone Ginyu, including an open-air 'onsen' with infinity edge pool, where you can laze around and marvel at the spectacular views. There are also spa treatments and a sauna available on the resort.

Experience

The main activity at Hakone Ginyu is to take leisurely walks in the surrounding mountains and the nearby Lake Ashi with wonderful views of Mount Fuji.
