Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah is a luxury retreat, set just outside Ubud in central Bali. The property was a quiet refuge and weekend retreat for the family and friends of Indonesian architect and interior designer Hadipran Hendra. Now turned into a boutique villa amidst paddy fields and tropical forest, near the Goa Gajah, the Hindu temple from which it takes its name, Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah offers a beautiful hideaway for discerning travellers in search of peace and tranquillity.
Resting in the exclusive Tanah Gajah estate, The Chedi Club features 20 Suites and Villas. The accommodation ranges from one and two-bedroom suites and villas with spacious living areas and open-air tropical bathrooms to Family Villas. Traditional Balinese architecture, local artefacts and contemporary design blend seamlessly to create exceptionally exclusive and luxurious private residences including the expansive Hadiprana Villa, featuring the owner’s formidable art collection.
The restaurant at the Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah, headed by Executive Chef Dean Nor, creates delicious traditional and Western cuisines including not-be-missed Rijsttafel, multiple rice-based dishes served together. A luxurious spa with two treatment rooms offers relaxing massages and there is a room devoted to manicures and pedicures. Visit the nearby Goa Gajah, a UNESCO-listed 9th century temple or the Agung Rai Museum of Art, or ARMA showcasing works of Balinese artists.

When to go Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April) – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Bali at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.
