TUTC Kohima Camp: Luxury Glamping in Nagaland

Customised only for this single festival in the remote northeast Indian state of Nagaland, this luxurious camp makes it easier for the discerning traveller to experience spell-binding tribal culture and traditions and also explore off-the-beaten tracks in the low-lying Himalayan valleys.

Nestled amidst luscious emerald valleys, the Ultimate Travelling Camp in Kohima offers just 10 tents. Each of these, set on individual wooden platforms have plush four-poster beds draped in fine cotton sheets and large ensuite bathrooms with modern amenities. The 3-layered canvas air-conditioned tents are decorated in colonial style with antique furniture and artefacts and come with services of your own private butler to help you unpack or bring your G&T. Its pure luxury and style.

Guests at the Ultimate Travelling Camp in Kohima stay here to enjoy and participate in the Hornbill Festival which showcases the best of Naga tribal culture and traditions. Launched in the year 2000 to encourage inter-tribal interaction, it is now one of the most important festivals of Nagaland. In addition to music and dance, are the imposing tribal Morungs (male dormitories) with majestic log drums once used for relaying messages by beating different tempos, across the mountains.

Stay The Ultimate Travelling Camp in Kohima has just 10 luxury tents. Each are spacious in size and decorated in colonial style with large four-poster beds, polished wooden flooring, ornate chandeliers and beautiful Indian rugs and fabrics. Private decks with seating are perfect place for stargazing in the evenings or view the beautiful surrounding mountains. Modern conveniences include ensuite bathrooms, air-conditioning, electricity, hot showers, and services of your own butler.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Ultimate Travelling Camp in Kohima but there are no specific facilities available. 

Dine There is no restaurant par se at the Ultimate Travelling Camp in Kohima but meals are served in the elegant dining tent, decorated with colonial furniture and antique artefacts. A team of skilled chefs serve Indian, contemporary European, regional and local cuisine prepared with locally sourced organic ingredients. Please inform in advance if you have any special requirements or allergies. 

Relax Each tent has an outside deck with seating that is perfect for relaxing. The Ultimate Travelling Camp in Kohima has a central tent with a library, where you can find books on spirituality, regional history and folklore, and art and culture. The camp also has its own boutique, where you’ll find beautiful handicrafts and artworks made by skilled artisans from the local area and across India. In the surrounds are nature trails, perfect for meditative walks.

Experience The Hornbill Festival is an annual feast, when the 16 Naga tribes come together in the nearby Kisama Village, where they put on a stunning show of their traditional music and dance performances. The yearly, 10-day festival beginning end November, offers a unique opportunity for guests to meet tribespeople, once the dreaded head-hunters of the region and soak in their culture. Other activities include hiking to experience the beautiful Himalayan landscapes and visiting local villages.
 


 

Location Kohima is located in North East India just south of the state of Assam.

Getting there Fly to Calcutta and take a flight to Dimapur. From there, Kohima is approximately a 3-hour 30-minute drive.

When to go This camp is only open for two weeks around the end of November and beginning of December when the weather is good, warm and dry.
