The Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort is a luxurious urban resort, set in 20 acres of gardens on the edge of the Siswan Forest Range in the foothills of the outer Himalayas near Chandigarh. Guests enter through a sequence of landscaped courtyards, surrounded by arches and colonnaded verandahs. Inside, all is symmetrical and ornamental; towering brass-framed doors, look out onto an avenue of fountains, streams and reflection pools that is reminiscent of distant glorious past.
Housed within this Rajput and Mughal style Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort, are 60 rooms, tents and villas. Of these, there are 15 colonial tented encampments which consist of 75sq m palatial air-conditioned canvas tents, with teak floors, lavish bathrooms and their own 11m private pools and terraces. For those who prefer more robust walls, there are 45 haveli-inspired buildings arranged in clusters of six around stone courtyards with fountains at their centres.
Surrounding the Oberoi Sukhvilas Resort are manicured gardens, visited by a variety of birds best explored during the cool morning walks. Guests can explore local villages or take bike rides through forest trails. Day tours must include two attractions. The Capitol Complex, a concentration of buildings by Le Corbusier, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the deeply human art of Nek Chand’s Rock Garden. Back at the hotel there is a spa and a swimming pool to relax.
