The Claridges hotel is an iconic landmark, located in the picturesque Lutyens area of New Delhi. Built in early 1950s, the property reminisces New Delhi’s British colonial past both in décor and location. It is situated close to Lodi Gardens, created in 1936 by Lady Willingdon and many of Lutyens’ famous buildings including the India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhawan, once the Viceroy House and the Parliament. It is also close to Humayun’s Tomb and Connaught Place, the colonial period shopping centre.
Housed within the elegant 5-storey Claridges hotel are 131 Rooms and Suites, spread out in two wings. All are spacious in size, decorated in elegant British colonial style with large picture windows and private balconies overlooking either the pool or gardens. A good choice of restaurants includes the sophisticated sushi bar, the outdoor Mediterranean Sevilla restaurant and Dhaba with a focus on Punjabi cuisine. There is also Vodka bar that offers 50 varieties of Vodka and other spirits.
Some of the sights located near Claridges hotel in New Delhi include the India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhawan, designed by Lutyens, once home to Viceroy and now the official residence of the President of India. Further afield include the Jama Masjid mosque, Qutab Minar and the Red Fort. For relaxation there is a swimming pool, a spa with health centre and spacious gardens with cabanas. The English afternoon tea is still the norm and is best not missed for its glamour and style.

When to go The best time to travel to India is between September and March when the weather is most pleasant. Summer starts in April and by June, it becomes very hot. By July there is the south-west monsoon, which brings heavy rains to the west coast. Although the word "monsoon" often brings to mind images of torrential floods and landslides, it is not a bad time to travel to India. The downpour tends to come and go quickly, leaving behind a clean, glistening landscape.
