Wayanad Wild: Luxury Wildlife Retreat in Kerala

Wayanad Wild is a hill resort, set in the forested hills of the Western Ghats in northeast Kerala. Known as the spice garden of the south, its surrounding landscape comprises of paddy fields, misty peaks and lush green forests. Owned and operated by CGH Earth, an eco-friendly hotel chain based in southern India, it aims to offer travel experiences that bring you close to nature, community and local culture. Located near Lakkidi, it is close to the border with Karnataka.

Accommodation at the Wayanad Wild comprises of 32 rooms, making it a peaceful retreat for couples or guests wanting a little more privacy. Each room has a balcony with comfortable seating to enjoy the surrounding forest, home to an amazing wildlife. Inside, rooms are spacious and elegantly furnished with modern facilities and large windows. The in-house restaurant serves delicious meals around a log fire, with views of the lovely stream that gargles its way through the thick forest.

Guest come to stay at the Wayanad Wild for their love for nature, wildlife and forest. A variety of nature trails available will interest leisure walkers, bird watchers and serious trekkers. The highlight is the Lakkidi View Point that offers great vistas of the valley but other interesting sites include the nearby Muthanga National Park, rich in biodiversity and famous for elephants, deer and tigers. And, the Eddakal Caves, which has some intricate murals dating back to 3000 BC.

Stay Wayanad Wild features 32 rooms, set in 12 spacious cottages. Each well-equipped with modern facilities and elegantly furnished in a style of rustic comfort. Outside, the balconies provide stunning views of the tree line further down the slope. Salvaged ship-wood and bamboo accessories lend a warm and earthy counterpoint to the light steel structures used to build the rooms without cutting the trees on the sloped terrain; together defining the living experience here!

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Wayanad Wild, but there are no specific facilities available for children. Children upto 5 years of age are accommodated on complimentary basis, however, families with older children will enjoy the surrounding terrain and thick forests filled with exotic flora and fauna. 

Dine The in-house kitchen at the Wayanad Wild, serves a range of traditional, Indian and western dishes. Depending on how full the resort is, the chef will tailor the menu based on your personal taste. Meals have the home-cooking style and prepared with fresh ingredients sourced locally or from their own garden. Fish is fresh and comes straight from the harbour. The specialty here is Kingfish, stuffed with chillies and small onions, that makes for a flavourful repast. 

Relax Facilities at Wayanad Wild include a swimming pool where guest can relax and unwind with a book. Rooms have outdoor spaces to relax, some have their own garden with a private plunge pool and a covered deck with a view to the paddy fields and fish ponds. You can also see the sunrise and sunset from the comforts of your own villa.

Experience There are plenty of activities on offer at the Wayanad Wild, including a trip to the Lakkidi View Point, which offers views of high mountain peaks, green valley, lakes and rainforest. Adventure seekers can climb the 2,100-metre Chembra Peak, the highest in Wayanad, go rafting on a half-day Bamboo Express, down the river on a bamboo raft or take a bike tour through the estate’s tea gardens. Also, visit a tea factory and learn about the art of processing tea. 
 


 

Location Wayanad Wild is located just 3.5km from the town of Lakkidi in Wayanad. Wayanad is located in the north east of Kerala.

Getting there Fly into Bangalore International Airport. From there it's a 5.5-hour drive via Mysore to Wayanad Wild.

When to go Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical. The best time to visit is from January through to April. Summer is hot and humid; the monsoon season arrives in early June and lasts till August. While September can be dry and humid. There can be a little rain in October and November, cooling off around December and lasting until February.
