Villa Romonea is a modern luxury villa available for rent on the coast of Cambodia in Kep. Designed in contemporary lifestyle by Lu Ban Happ, a key figure in the Le Corbusier-inspired New Khmer Architecture movement, it is one of the few surviving private mansions of Kep’s golden era in the 1960s. Built in 1968 and fully renovated in 2010, Villa Romonea is primarily for holiday rental, but it also offers individual rooms at weekends.
Standing beside the ocean on the southwest coast of Cambodia, Villa Romonea is a gleaming white, private beach villa. Its fronted by an infinity outdoor pool, that reflects its modernist curves and angles. Inside, a curvaceous sweeping staircase dominates the handsome, light and airy space. The villa’s six rooms afford views of the palm-fringed hills, azure Gulf of Kampot, and tropical grounds. The villa’s guest rooms have minimalist design and simply furnished, some with little more than a bed.
Breakfasts are memorable, taken on a long table under a mango tree. There is a wide choice to choose from; tropical fruit, made-to-order eggs, and pastries delivered from Phnom Penh’s best shops. The personable staff make guests feel at home serving sunset cocktails on the ample wooden deck overlooking the infinity-edge pool. The property, has a tennis court, a 6-hole golf driving range, and a saltwater infinity Pool.

Getting There There are no direct flights to Cambodia from the UK, but good connections are available to Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville. From Phnom Penh you can fly to Kep with Air Asia. Phnom Penh to Kep by road is a three-hour drive. There is also a helipad 10km from the property. Your hotel will pick you up from the airport.
When to go Cambodia is hot all year round and the best time to visit is during the dry season from November to April. In May and June the southwestern monsoon brings rain that lasts until October but it rarely rains all day. Although, this is a low season for tourism, it has its own advantages. It is when the Angkor complex is at its most beautiful, the vegetation is lush, the moats for full of water and there are less tourists so you can explore the temples in peace.
