Kamalaya – Award-Winning Wellness Resort in Koh Samui

Kamalaya is luxury wellness sanctuary and holistic spa resort, set on the south coast of Koh Samui island, in southern Thailand. Centred around a cave temple formerly used by Buddhist monks, the 76-room resort is located in a jungle ravine that spills precipitously down to a private beach. American architect Robert Powell brings references to Nepali pagodas into teak clad rooms and villas built amidst ancient, granite boulders, streams, and tropical vegetation.

A dream project by John Stewart, Canadian runaway-turned-monk-turned-art dealer and his charismatic wife, Karina, a Master in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kamalaya is one of the most genuine and authentic holistic spa retreats in Thailand. Each guest receives a complimentary Wellness Consultation and everything from food to exercise and treatments are tailored to ensure that your individual aspirations are achieved in every possible way.

Stay Kamalaya features 76 rooms and villas. These are grouped in over a dozen categories, ranging from 35 sqm rooms, some with balconies to two-bedroom luxury villas that spread over 300 sqm and come with a private swimming pool, Sala and outdoor living spaces. All accommodation is spread out and designed to capture the healing power of nature. The facilities are excellent, but you won't find in-room TVs or alcohol in the minibar but alternatives are available to keep you occupied.

ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at the Kamalaya, however it is designed more for adults, also children below 16 years are not allowed to take part in any of the wellness programmes.

Dine There are three dining options at the Kamalaya; Soma Restaurant, Amrita Café and the Alchemy Tea Lounge, offering a range of healthy, guilt-free options. There are exotic salads, soups, and juice concoctions, as well as delicious Thai- and Indian-inspired curries and stir-frys. The menu may include roast pumpkin and sunflower seed dumplings, or the mung bean pasta. There is also wine and coffee as well, but the food is so tasty, you won’t like anything like anything else.

Relax The beach facing the Kamalaya is rocky in parts and the sea is shallow, not for swimming. But there are two swimming pools for those who like to do laps or just relax. Other facilities include tai chi, yoga and fitness classes, and exquisite treatments in the spa where you can choose from body wraps, Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage, Indian head massages, acupuncture and more. Also find some time to meditate at the Monk's Cave which provided the original energy for the location.

Experience Kamalaya has a coterie of next-level energy healers, nutritionists and lifestyle coaches. There are practitioners who will look through your body and suggest the right programme. Meditation gurus will go deep into your psyche and suggest life-enhancement techniques and spiritual healers will try release therapy, all of which help you detox at various levels. Guests can spend their day having treatments, learning from lectures or take time out to relax and meditate to find inner peace.
