Wild Coast Tented Lodge is a luxury safari camp, set on a beach in Yala National Park, on Sri Lanka's South Coast. Owned by the Sri Lankan family behind Dilmah Tea and the Resplendent Ceylon collection of hotels, this extraordinary safari camp has raised the bar for even the most luxurious African lodges. Situated between the Indian Ocean and the jungle of Yala National Park, it forms an excellent choice for honeymooners in search of an adrenaline-fuelled safari adventure.
Hidden amongst the surrounding jungle, Wild Coast Tented Lodge has just 28 tented cocoon suites. No effort was spared during its design and no decadence has been spared to furnish its interiors. Each tent boasts teak floors, freestanding handmade copper bathtubs and four-poster beds. There are four tents with private plunge pool that overlooks the beach while some have been specially created with extra space to house families with children.
Food at Wild Coast Tented Lodge is bound to surpass expectations especially with it being a Relais & Chateaux accredited property. There is also a well-furnished bar offering a range of national and imported beverages. Daily game drives are on specially modified vehicles with experienced naturalist guides and optional excursions can be arranged to nearby cultural sites. Back at the lodge, is an infinity swimming pool and a spa offering Swedish and Ayurveda inspired massages.
Stay Wild Coast Tented Lodge features just 28 cocoon-shaped tents. All boast soaring vaulted ceilings, teak floors complementing dark leathers, freestanding copper bathtubs and four-poster beds draped in soft, fine linen. These are clustered around water holes and come with wooden decks offering panoramic jungle views. While four tents dotted along the beachfront have their own private plunge pool. There are also eight cocoons for families, providing you with much-needed space.
ChildCare Families with children are welcome to stay at Wild Coast Tented Lodge but the wild landscape means it’s best suited to children of 5 years and above. Up to two children can be accommodated in a Cocoon sharing with parents. Either a single folding bed or two sleeping bags can be provided. Children will enjoy the open spaces and getting up close to wildlife.
Dine The dome-shaped Dining Pavilion at the Wild Coast Tented Lodge was designed to look like one of the boulders and offers a natural look, with wooden furnishings, a sandy floor and tall banquette seating. The house chef Suresh Nicholas brings a modern take on Sri Lankan cuisine and has created an innovative menu inspired by the local Malay community. Gourmet dinners showcase rotisserie and barbecued meats, spicy sharing platters and local cuisine served fresh from the tandoor oven.
Relax The Ten Tuskers bar at the Wild Coast Tented Lodge occupies a second domed pavilion and has a style of safari lodge. The freeform infinity pool reaches under the arches and into the building, so you can sip your sundowner while perched on one of the underwater ledges. The spa with four treatment rooms offers classics like Swedish massage and the island spice scrub. The two Sri Lankan ingredients, Ceylon tea and cinnamon are used liberally in their products.
Experience Activities at the Wild Coast Tented Lodge include number of excursions into Yala National Park. Accompanied by expert guides, guests can discover Yala's outstanding diversity of flora and fauna, including sloth bears, wild elephants and the elusive leopard. Immerse yourself in some of the richest biodiversity in Sri Lanka and see over 44 varieties of mammal and 215 bird species. Alternatively, take an afternoon to some ancient Buddhist sites that can be found nearby.

Location Wild Coast Tented Lodge is located on the edge of Yala National Park in the town of Palatupana. Palatupana is located on Sri Lanka's South Coast, close to Hambantota.
Getting there Fly into Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport. From there it's a 6-hour 30-minute drive. You can also a 45-minute domestic flight from Colombo to Hambantota. From there, Wild Coast is just a 1-hour drive away.
When to go Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with consistently warm temperatures and lots of sunshine. There are two monsoon seasons but they only bring rain to the west and south-west coasts from May to September; and the east coast and northern region between October and February. The rest of the year is sunny and dry but the months of December to April are probably the best time to visit. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.
