Settha Palace – Colonial Luxury in Vientiane, Laos

The Settha Palace in Vientiane, has an excellent position on the edge of the old town. Located not far from the main street, it’s just 10 minutes’ walk to the Mekong, the heart of this evocative city. Built in 1932 and tastefully restored in 1999, this colonial boutique hotel serves as a testament to the long-lost era of classical elegance and French colonial charm. Today, Settha Palace, provides guests with genuine hospitality, comfortable rooms and fine dining with elegant sophistication.

Settha Palace has 26 Rooms and Suites, all facing the pool and picturesque gardens. Staying in Setha Palace is like taking a step back in time. All of their rooms are luxuriously spacious, starting with 35 sqm and furnished with furniture made from rosewood. The Italian marbled bathrooms have a separate shower and tub. There is one Junior Suite with a colonial style living room and a cosy dining area. The Executive Suites are extra-large and come with a full sofa lounge set and a dining area.

Dinning at the Settha Palace Hotel is mainly at the Belle Epoque restaurant, that serves classic French and seasonal Lao cuisine. Set in the hotel’s tropical gardens is the welcoming pool and laid-back Poolside Bar and restaurant. There is also an open-air Sidewalk Cafe which specialises in fresh Asian fare. The hotel with its architecture, furniture and period features perfectly evoke Laos’s French colonial era and forms an excellent base to explore the city.

Stay The Settha Palace has 23 Rooms and 3 Suites, facing the pool or gardens. Deluxe Rooms are elegantly furnished with colonial décor, high ceilings and wooden floors and have either garden or pool views. The Junior Suite is more spacious but takes you a step back in time. The two Executive Suites, have a large living room with 3-seater sofa, marble dining table with 4 seats, a private bathroom for guests.

ChildCare Children are welcome to stay at the Settha Palace Hotel but there are no specific facilities available. However, babysitting service can be arranged on request.

Dine La Belle Epoque is the European-style fine dining restaurant with an ideal atmosphere to enjoy an exquisite French dinner, complimented by a fabulous array of wines. Other dining places at the Settha Palace include, the Pool Bar, flanked by tropical palms and coconut trees, a pleasant spot for breakfast or an afternoon snack. The Sidewalk Cafe, built around a fountain and shaded by a majestic tree imbues a timeless ambience where you can watch the city pass by and a good place on a cool evening to enjoy your meal.

Relax The Settha Palace hotel has a lush resort style pool with lounge chairs and fresh towels. Beautiful massage rooms for classic massage treatments in a beautifully furnished space with views into a lush private garden. There is also a well-equipped gym to keep up with your fitness routine.

One More Thing The hotel, originally built in 1932 was run by a French Theodas family until the change of regime in 1975 that forced the family into exile in France. With little care or upkeep, it fell into total disrepair over the following years. In the 90’s the Theodas family returned and spent five long years passionately leading the difficult renovation of their much-loved property. Today, this colonial boutique hotel is tastefully restored in creamy ivory and natural Rosewood décor and still owned and operated by the same family.
