Hotel Tugu Malang is a unique boutique hotel, set in the centre of Malang’s Old Town, in East Java. Built to house Indonesian-Chinese sugar baron’s enormous collection of antiques and art, from stone Buddhas to a nearly life-size portrait of his daughter, this small and intimate hotel is bursting with atmosphere. The elegant mansion is located in Malang city, often called the loveliest town in South East Asia during the colonial times and where Dutch planters retired to a life of luxury.

The restaurants have a grand colonial feel with beautiful wooden furniture, serving from Indonesian, Chinese, Dutch and French recipes, to the Chinese Peranakan menu.
Malang city is surrounded by the beautiful treasures of Java and old temples of the Majapahit and the Singosari kingdoms dating back to the 13th century. Surrounded by serene hilly apple and tea plantations, Hotel Tugu Malang serves as great destination for trekking, biking and cultural tours. Within the city is Dutch reform Church, Gereja Katerdral Jun, built by the Dutch in 1905 in Neo-Gothic style. Outdoor activities include trekking, biking and watersports along its coast.

Getting there Tugu Malang is located 3-hours from the nearest airport, Surabaya. You can also take the 8 hour train journey from Yogyakarta.
When to go Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – wet and dry – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Indonesia at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.
