Royal Orchid Metropole is a heritage hotel, set in heart of the Mysore city in the southwest state of Karnataka. Built by the former Maharaja of Mysore in 1920 for his British guests, and spread over 2.5 acres of land, the hotel has been tastefully refurbished while retaining its colonial architecture and character. Inside, the hotel has an elegant design; imperial arches, impressive pillars and flamboyant corridors, saturated with Mysore culture and colonial influences.
Surrounded by the historical and buzzing city of Mysore, Royal Orchid Metropole provides a calm haven for its 30 rooms. All are colonial in style, decorated in subdued tones and furnished with dark wood, period style furniture and silks, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. Dining options at the hotel include two restaurants; Tiger Trail offering traditional cuisine of Karnataka, including the famous Masala Dosa, idli sambar and Maddur Vade and Shikari serving non-vegetarian cuisine.
Located in the centre of Mysore city, guests are within walking distance to the Maharaja’s Palace. Other interesting sites include Avadhoota Datta Peetham, a spiritual centre renowned for promoting social welfare of mankind and Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery, a peaceful Buddhist sanctuary. Further afield, take a cruise on the River Kaveri and visit the beautiful Brindavan Gardens. St. Philomena’s Church is one of India’s oldest and largest churches designed in the neo-Gothic style.
