Your arrival can be at any time of the day. The official activities don't commence until the evening, with a welcome meeting planned. Nagano

Venture out for a day trip to charming Matsumoto, home to one of Japan's best-preserved castles, retaining its original wooden interior and stone exterior. Return to Nagano and visit the historic Zenkoji Temple. Explore this Buddhist pilgrimage site, built in the 7th century around which the city of Nagano was established.

Learn about the local history, customs, and the challenges that the aging population and limited income opportunities present to many rural areas of Japan. Kyoto

Explore the stunning Tottori Sand Dunes during the morning. These monumental dunes, reaching up to 50m (164 ft) high, line the Sea of Japan's coast, formed over thousands of years by sand washed away from a nearby river. Roam among the dunes, with the option to scale one for captivating views of the coastline. Afterward, visit Tottori's lively harbour fish market, a haven for fresh seafood, including some of Japan's finest crab. Witness the bustling local activity and consider trying a delicacy from one of the market's restaurants. In the late afternoon, set off for Kyoto, the traditional heart of Japan, for a two-night stay.

Pay a visit to the iconic Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, renowned for its array of 10,000 red torii gates. The shrine sits at the base of Mount Inari, with trails leading to smaller shrines scattered across the mountain. Spend the afternoon at leisure in this beautiful city. Consider exploring Kyoto's Zen gardens, traditional teahouses, myriad shrines, and gift shops. Perhaps you'll even catch a glimpse of a geisha.
