Mountain Lodge (also called Bumthang Mountain Resort) is a charming hotel, set just outside Bumthang town in Eastern Bhutan. Built of stone and wood, in traditional style and set above the Bumthang Chhu (River), it remains one of the oldest family-run hotels in Bumthang valley. The hotel is situated on the way to the famous Kurjey Temple, the final resting place of the first three Kings of Bhutan and is a great base from which to explore the valley.
Set within this traditional style Mountain Lodge are just 27 newly renovated rooms. This includes the New Wing, with far more comfortable pine-clad spacious rooms, super comfy beds and bathrooms with all modern facilities. There is an in-house restaurant offering traditional local cuisine and is surrounded by an orchard with great mountain views. The resort is a great choice for those wanting a true Bhutanese experience, without the price-tag of the nearby Aman.
There is much to do in and around Mountain Lodge. The staff can arrange local excursions and mountain treks or offer a local expert guide to explain about the significance of local temples, chortens and dzongs. Visit Lhodrak Kharchhu Monastery, an important centre to revitalize Tibetan culture. You will see monks debating in traditional style or drawing intricate patterns of mandalas, that are interesting to see and understand the theories that lead to its creation.

The Monsoon occurs between June and August when the temperature is normally between 8° and 21°C. October and November are arguably the best months, when the monsoon has passed and the skies are clear. The spring months of March, April and May are best for the flora, but it can be stormy as the monsoon builds up for July-September.
