The Selinda Camp is located in the Selinda Reserve – upstream from Savute Channel and Chobe – so it has all the advantages of both of those famous areas but with the tremendous advantage of exclusivity. At the peak of dry season, this concession boasts elephants by the thousands and regular sightings of pack of African wild dogs. Set under a thatch structure, Selinda Camp’s décor is centred on the four elements of air, water, fire and earth with art by Keith Joubert. The camp has nine tented rooms, cooled by thatch, and large en-suite bathrooms and private verandas.
The Selinda floodplains are host to a wide diversity of antelope and plains game. Game drives are fruitful with a multiplicity of antelope, Burchell's zebra, southern giraffe, blue wildebeest, and plenty of elephant and buffalo to be seen. Predator viewing is exceptional, including the incredible hippo-killing lions of Selinda, leopard, wild dog and cheetah.
Selinda Camp is primarily a land-based camp; however, boating is possible on the Spillway in one of the camp’s two powerboats usually year-round. Daily activities revolve around guided morning, afternoon and night game drives in custom-built 4x4 Land Cruisers, boating and seasonal fly-fishing. Nature walks accompanied by an armed guide are a Selinda speciality.

Stay Selinda Camp is a Classic Safari Lodge has nine spacious, canvas tents shaded with thatch roofing and raised on wooden decks. Ceiling fans, combined with roof vents, bring the African breeze in, cooling the surrounds. Selinda’s little surprise is the extended en-suite bathroom complete with a deep stone bath and antique shower. A large private veranda, extends into the bush and provides each tent with a slice of its own private Africa.
The Camp Selinda’s commanding main lounge and dining area is raised with views of the Spillway. Nearby is the large walk-in wine cellar and art gallery as well as the curio shop. After the day’s events, the pool is a welcome respite, and then a drink around the fire pit rounds out the day.
ChildCare Children of the age of 6 years and above are welcome to stay in Selinda Camp. Children below 12 years are permitted at no additional cost using existing bedding.
Safari Daily activities revolve around guided morning, afternoon and night game drives in custom-built 4x4 Land Cruisers, boating and seasonal fly-fishing. Nature walks accompanied by an armed guide are a Selinda speciality. Sleep outs under a mosquito net on a raised platform in the African wild are available for those who want an extra adventure. Sleep outs must be booked in advance and are subject to extra cost and availability.
Experience Selinda Camp is owned by Dereck and Beverly Joubert - award winning filmmakers at National Geographic for over 25 years - who have spent much of that time filming in and around the Selinda Spillway. Some of their award-winning films include 'Ultimate Enemies', 'Relentless Enemies' and 'Eye of the Leopard' - all filmed around Selinda Camp. Professional and amateur photographers will find time to interact and experience wildlife photography with the best in the field.
Location Selinda Camp is located in on a private island, in 130,000-hectare Selinda Concession north of the Okavango Delta. It overlooks the waters of the dramatic Selinda Spillway, in the Linyanti region of Northern Botswana.
Getting There Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta, which is best reached from Johannesburg by a 2-hour international flight. From Maun there is a short 45-minutes flight to Selinda airfield, followed by another 45-minutes’ drive to the Selinda Camp with game viewing en route. During floods, transfer may be a combination of a 15-minute drive to the boat dock and then a 15-minute boat ride to camp. Please note, light aircraft transfers have 15kg luggage restrictions in soft, squashable bags.
When to go Botswana’s winter months from May to October are dry and cool with chilly nights. This is also its high season. Botswana has hot, wet summers from October to April. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between December and February, sometimes continuing into March, with rain generally in the form of afternoon thundershowers. Best time to travel is all year round. There is great fishing from March to December, with catches of tiger fish, bream, catfish and tilapia.
