DumaTau Camp is located in a private Linyanti Wildlife Reserve that borders the western boundary of Chobe National Park in northern Botswana. This is an elephant country where herds thrive in the marshy habitat, providing plenty of intimate photo ops. The Classic Camps has tented units on a raised ground to overlook the Lagoon. The main areas include an expansive deck with dining and lounge areas. There is also an adjoining swimming pool.
The DumaTau is close to the source of the Savute Channel as well as the Linyanti waterways, well-known for its elephant concentrations. Predator sightings of lion, cheetah and wild dog are good. Plains game viewing include red lechwe, antelope, zebra, giraffe and excellent hippo. The many varied habitats within this area include a rich birdlife.
Wildlife viewing is the primary activity at DumaTau Camp, either on day and night game drives or while on foot and on the water (levels permitting). Short nature walks can be taken along the Linyanti River and Savute Channel, while the camp's barge takes visitors along the waters of the Linyanti, to watch hippo and waterfowl. There are also a number of platforms and hides from which to view and photograph animals and birds.

Stay DumaTau is a Classic safari camp with 10 luxurious tents, all raised off the ground to overlook the Lagoon. There are eight twin-bedded tents and two family-units which can accommodate four guests, each room with its own bathroom. The architecture of DumaTau Camp evokes the age of the explorers along with a sense of space, thanks to the wraparound clear-storey window providing dramatic views of the river.
The Camp The main DumaTau area includes an expansive deck, a large dining and lounge areas, all with wide open views of the enormous lagoon. There is an adjoining swimming pool. An open air boma is used for dinner around campfire. For wildlife enthusiasts, there is a sunken hide at a waterhole near the camp. Massage treatments (at an additional cost) can be conducted in the privacy of the guest’s tent.
ChildCare Children of 6 years and older are welcome to stay at DumaTau Camp. For families travelling with children between 6 and 12 years, private activities need to be booked and paid for. The minimum age for walking activities is 13 years and for boating activities is 6 years (subject to water level).
Safari The main activity at the DumaTau Camp is game drives via 5 x 10-seater open 4 x 4 Land Rovers each accommodating maximum 6 or 7 guests, allowing all guests an outside seat. All vehicles are equipped with books on trees, birds and mammals along with a pair of binoculars and insect repellent. Night drives are also undertaken and walking safaris are organised on request.
Experience Fishing in DumaTau area is on a catch and release basis (prohibited in January and February for fish breeding purposes). The camp has a small stock of basic rods and reels but if interested bring your own fly fishing equipment. Sleep-outs in the hide can be arranged on a minimum 3-night stay. Stay is generally booked and paid in advance. There is a hide is an elevated platform, equipped with bed rolls, mosquito nets and long drop toilet. Minimum age requirement is 12 years and older.
Location DumaTau is located in the private 125 000-hectare Linyanti Wildlife Reserve which borders the western boundary of Chobe National Park in northern Botswana. It is situated close to the source of the Savute Channel on one of the many lagoons within the Linyanti Swamp system, which makes game drives along the Savute one of the highlights of a stay here.
Getting There Maun is the gateway to the Okavango Delta, which is best reached from Johannesburg by a 2-hour international flight. From Maun, Okavango Delta is accessed by a short 45 min flight on a light aircraft. The flight from Kasane takes about 50 mins. There is a luggage restriction on these flights of 10kg (22lbs) per person, soft sided luggage.
When to go Botswana’s winter months from May to October are dry and cool with chilly nights. This is also its high season. Botswana has hot, wet summers from October to April. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between December and February, sometimes continuing into March, with rain generally in the form of afternoon thundershowers. Best time to travel is all year round.
