Yungas Forest Adventure

Yungas Forest Adventure

The Yungas, a strip of narrow forest on Andes eastern slope, stretches from Peru through Bolivia, to northern Argentina. The yungas forests are extremely diverse, ranging from moist lowland forest to evergreen montane forest and cloud forests. These are best seen from the ‘Yungas Road’, that connects La Paz, Bolivian capital with the low-lying region of Yungas in the Amazonian rainforest. Due to abysmal driving conditions, Yungas road in Bolivia has earned the nickname “Death Road”.

This is a comprehensive tour of Bolivia with La Paz and Yungas, two regions of dramatic scenery. The tour starts in the capital city of La Paz and explores its Andean culture in Huatajata and Lake Titicaca where you visit the floating islands. Transfer from the soaring snow-capped Andes to Yungas in the tropical Amazon rainforest. Then relax in the towns of Coroico and Chulumani in relative warmth after the cold of the Altiplano.

And, experience biking on the world’s most dangerous road.

Getting There There are no direct flights from Britain to Bolivia. The most direct routes go via Madrid, Miami, Buenos Aires or São Paulo, each of which is connected by daily flights from London; British Airways flies to each of these destinations, and there are numerous other options for both Miami and Madrid. Air Europa, has flights from London via Madrid to Buenos Aires and Lima, from where you can take a connecting flight.

When to go The most popular time of year to travel to Bolivia is between April and October. This is winter and the dry season, when days are usually sunny, and the skies crystal clear, making this the best time of year for trekking and climbing. It is also the best time for visiting the hot and humid lowlands, when temperatures are generally slightly more pleasant though rain remains a possibility all year round. November to March is summer and the rainy season though more pronounced in the lowlands.
