The Grand Southeast Asia Adventure

Vietnam and Thailand with Hong Kong, Southeast Asia’s fascinating countries begs to be explored from the ground up. All three countries, capture the senses as well as the imagination with their picturesque landscapes, solemn pagodas, deep spirituality and unique histories.

Hong Kong, the world’s most vertical city. With over 200 buildings over 150m, it is known for its skyline, that comes alive every night in a spectacular musical laser light show. Victoria Peak affords sweeping views of the city and the Kowloon Peninsula. Outlying islands include Lantau, famed for its massive bronze Tian Tan Buddha.

Thailand is known for its bustling klongs and markets in Bangkok and white-sand beaches. Yet much beauty can be found in Thailand's sleepiest corners as well, and our deep-rooted connections mean unprecedented access to rare activities, such as painting with elephant in Chiang Mai alongside a private mahout (trainer) or visiting remote villages and their people near sleepy Chiang Rai.

This is the most comprehensive tour of Southeast Asia that includes Hong Kong with the highlights of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. Accommodation is at some of the world's most extraordinary luxury hotels, all of which emphasize the local aesthetic and cuisine.

Begin in Hong Kong, one of Asia’s most attractive and exciting cities. During touring with your expert private guide, ride the Peak Tram to the top of Hong Kong Island, dine on dim sum at teahouses, explore local markets to learn about traditional Chinese medicine and unusual food products, and ride in a traditional sampan boat across Aberdeen Harbour.  Perhaps watch a horse race at Happy Valley Racetrack, enjoy private appointments at leading antique shops or with noted designers, or get fitted for custom clothing at our favourite tailors.

Next, fly to Hanoi, Vietnam’s fascinating capital and intellectual centre. During private touring with your expert local guide and private driver, visit the city’s most important historical attractions. Also tour around Hoan Kiem Lake and leafy backstreets where beautiful French colonial-era buildings have been transformed into upscale restaurants. Other options include visiting the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology or the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. Additional special interest touring can be arranged upon request, such as cyclo rides, cooking classes, meetings with prominent historians, artists and art gallery owners, and more.

Stay at a luxury beachfront resort, and experience the best of this centuries-old town during private touring. Visit the vibrant morning market, where stalls are piled high with fresh fish and produce. Also visit the nearby Museum of Cham Sculpture, as well as the Marble Mountains, which contain Buddhist cave temples. We can arrange additional activities in and near Hoi An.

Fly to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam’s most dynamic city. With your own expert guide and driver, experience the city's most interesting sights including the Notre Dame Cathedral and the old Post Office, both magnificent sights from the French colonial period. Also the former Presidential Palace, the China town and the local markets. One day, take an excursion into the countryside to tour the Cu Chi Tunnels and observe a colourful religious ceremony at the Cao Dai Temple.

Next, fly to Siem Reap, Cambodia and visit some of the most impressing and breathtaking pieces of history in the world – the temples of Angkor. Established by the Khmer Kingdom of Kambuja, which gave its name to Cambodia, it became one of the largest empires in South East Asia. The ruins seen today represent successive capitals. These were cities of massive stone temples, wide majestic causeways, thrusting towers and imposing gates. The sheer size and magnificence of Angkor Wat is compelling.

Getting There There are few direct flights from Europe to Vietnam’s three main international airports but these are steadily increasing over the years. The majority of visitors take indirect flights routed through Bangkok, Singapore or Hong Kong. It can be cheaper if you fly to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore or regular international carriers and from there take one of the low cost carriers to Vietnam.

In Thailand, Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport is the country's major gateway. Practically every airline carrier that flies to Asia also flies into Bangkok. This means there are plenty of services and the competition on the routes helps to keep the ticket prices down.

When to go The climate in Thailand and Vietnam remains tropical. The best time to visit the region is in the months between November and mid-March. During these months the days are pleasant and the nights are chilly. Thereafter the temperature begins to rise and March to May gets very hot. The monsoon arrives in the month of April-May and peak in August but continues until mid-October. Travel is difficult during these months. Avoid travelling during March-April and August.
