Posada Campotinto

Posada Campotinto is a small boutique resort, set on a sprawling hill, deep in the wine country around Carmelo, in Uruguay. Here great wines are being produced with the kind of easy going, grass-roots vibe that comes from small communities birthing their own tourism industry. Situated about 240 km northwest of the capital of Montevideo and just across the Río de la Plata from Argentina, it’s a place of grassy roads, fields of grazing cattle, and hillsides of pale green vineyards.

The main house at Campotinto offers four spacious bedrooms and a luxury African style tent. All are decorated in a country style, with white-washed wood panelled walls, floral curtains and a mix of modern and antique furnishings. Contemporary Italian dishes prepared with local organic ingredients are served at the al fresco Campotinto Restaurant, paired with Carmelo wines. Explore the countryside on bike or on horse, then relax at the open-air swimming pool with lounges.

Carmelo area, with about 1,000 acres of vineyards, is the second largest wine-growing region in Uruguay. Sitting at its heart is Posada Campotinto, one of eight small and family-run vineyards that are producing some fine wines and posing a challenge to its formidable opponent across the border in Argentina. Set within its vintage vineyard setting, it is no wonder why Posada CampoTinto was named one of the world’s top hotels for wine lovers.
