Chyulu Hills & Maasai Mara Safari

Chyulu Hills & Maasai Mara Safari

Chyulu Hills National Park, lies in South-West Kenya, between the Tsavo and Amboseli ecosystems. The park, also called "The Volcano Hills", has a wild and impressive landscape overlooked by Mt Kilimanjaro. The area has few Masai villages where wildlife including lion, giraffe, zebra and elephant roam undisturbed. The popular Mzima Springs, with its source in a reservoir under the volcanic Chyulu range, flows through a series of pools before joining the Tsavo and Galana rivers.

Stay at the exclusive ol Donyo Lodge in Chyulu Hills. With just 16 guests, the ol Donyo lodge is fully inclusive of a wide range of outdoor wildlife activities and meals. Activities include daily game drives, guided bushwalks, night drives, and community out-reach programmes. Chyulu works best for old safari hands who want a wilderness experience, in combination with another park richer in game such as the Masai Mara or Amboseli.

When to go Game viewing is at its best in mid-summer after the rainy season has ended. The days will be long and the weather pleasant. The best month is probably July.

The main rainy seasons are from April to May (the long rains) and October to December (the short rains). Rainfall is seldom continuous over long periods and normally falls in the late afternoon preceded by bright sunny and fresh days. The Rift Valley and Central Highlands enjoy a temperate climate year round although the temperatures vary from the hot and relatively dry floor of the Rift valley to arctic on the peaks of Mt Kenya.
