Ongava Tented Camp is tucked into a hidden valley at the foot of a dolomite hill in Ongava Game Reserve bordering Etosha National Park – Namibia's premier wildlife destination – providing an abundance of incredible big game viewing regardless of season. It comprises of eight large Meru-style tents with private verandas. The main area, built of stone, canvas and thatch, fronts onto a much-frequented waterhole.

Most general game around the Ongava Tented Camp include gemsbok, wildebeest, Burchell's zebra, Hartmann's mountain zebra, waterbuck, giraffe, and the endemic black-faced impala. Elephants can be found in the Park, with lion, leopard, and black and white rhino, both seen on the reserve. Birdlife within the Ongava Game Reserve is prolific, with over 340 species to be seen - amongst them 10 of Namibia's 14 endemic bird species.

Activities at Ongava Tented Camp revolve around day and night wildlife-viewing drives in the National Park and on the Ongava Reserve itself. Other possibilities include guided walks with experienced guides, birding and spending time in hides that overlook waterholes. Guests at Ongava Camp share a dedicated guide and Land Rover, ensuring the best possible nature experience at one of Africa's great wildlife destinations.

Ongava Tented Camp ETOSHA, NAMIBIA

Stay Ongava Tented Camp is a Classic Safari Lodge with 8 luxurious tents with a capacity for 16 guests. Classic Meru-style tents with double doors and covered veranda have en-suite bathrooms with flush toilet, basin, indoor and outdoor shower. Soaps, shampoos, body lotion, torch and insect repellents are supplied in each tent. Safe in each tent.

The Camp The main area of the Ongava Tented Camp is built of stone, canvas and thatch, fronts onto a much-frequented waterhole. Relaxation at the camp typically takes place around the main area with its relaxing bar and swimming pool, watching the wildlife that comes to drink at the waterhole. Camp has 220v generator-powered electricity but battery power used for lighting and fans.

ChildCare There are no specific facilities available for younger children. Hence only children of 16 years and above are welcome to stay at the Ongava Tented Camp. There is one family tent which comprises of two tents and can sleep four.

Safari Daily routine at the Ongava Tented Camp begins with an early morning drive for Etosha National Park that takes about 45 minutes. Return to camp for lunch. Afternoon tea and depart on nature drive on Ongava property, tracking rhino on foot, sundowners and returning to camp using the spotlight. Dinner. Private vehicles can be booked at extra cost (subject to availability)

Experience Bird life is prolific with 340 species seen, amongst them ten of Namibia's 14 endemic bird species including White-tailed Shrike, Short-toed Rock Thrush, Hartlaub's Francolin, Ruppell's Parrot and raptors in abundance. Ongava Camp also provides easy access to the prime game viewing areas of western Etosha, Namibia's premier wildlife destination.

Ongava Tented Lodge Etosha, Namibia

Location Little Ongava Camp is situated in a private Ongava Game Reserve in northern Namibia along the southern boundary of the Etosha National Park. Set on the crest of a hill, the lodge overlooks the private 30,000 hectare game reserve that borders Etosha National Park to the south and boasts a wide range of wildlife including lion and rhino.

Getting There The best way to reach Little Ongava Camp is from Windhoek reached by international flight via Johannesburg. It can be reached by light aircraft flight to Ongava's private airstrip from Windhoek in 1-hour 30-minutess and from Swakopmund in 1-hour 45-minutes. A member of staff will meet you on arrival and transfer you to the camp. Self-drive from Windhoek takes approximately 4 hours 30 minutes.

When to go The winter months between May to October are the best for seeing the dramatic sand dunes at Sossusvlei and game viewing - especially in Etosha National Park. The skies are clear, the risk of malaria is at its lowest, and animals are increasingly concentrated around the waterholes. Summer months between November and April bring rain, when migratory birds flock into the Etosha park's many habitats followed by bird watching in December in Caprivi Strip (Zambezi Region).
